Life at the foot of the Acropolis: neighbourhood bakeries, leafy streets, and some of the best food in Athens, all a short walk from your door.
Koukaki sits between the Acropolis and Filopappou Hill. It still feels like a place where people live: neighbours chat outside the bakery, the Friday street market fills with fresh produce, and in the evening the pedestrian streets fill up with locals out for dinner.
The area takes its name from Georgios Koukakis, whose iron-bed factory stood here in the early 20th century. Today it’s known for its independent cafés, family-run tavernas and relaxed wine bars, with the Acropolis Museum just around the corner.
